How Can I Soothe a Teething Baby?

Gently rub the gums with a clean finger, or offer a clean, chilled (not frozen) teething ring. Talk to your pediatrician or dentist before using any teething medicine.

High fever or diarrhea are not typical signs of teething, so call your pediatrician if they happen. Once teeth arrive, schedule your baby’s first dental visit.

Teething Questions

Many babies get their lower front teeth first, followed by the upper front teeth, but the order and timing vary.

Teething necklaces can be a choking and strangulation risk. Talk to your pediatrician about safer ways to soothe your baby.

Call if teeth seem very late, look discolored, or if gums are unusually swollen or painful.
